Condolence letter on Dr.Byahatti's Memorial Service
We have assembled here to-day, not to mourn the Lingaiyka of our dear friend, Dr. Veerappa Byahatti, but to celebrate his life and legacy. We are here not to shed our tears over his return home, but to pay homage to the blessed code of the dignified Sharana way of living he so honorably exemplified and lived by and to thank him for sharing a part of his life with us all.
He was a man of few words and not given to verbiage; reflecting Basava’s vachana, “matanadidare muttinaharadantirbeku, matanadidare manikyada diptiyantirabeku, ….” A few years ago, during a private conversation I mentioned to him that was the most genteel and one of the nicest gentlemen I had the fortune to meet. Hearing this countenance remained calm, cool, and collected and totally unaffected. That reflected Akka Mahadevi’s vachana, “ …. jagadali janidisabalika, stutinidegalu bandode, samadaniyagirabeku, ….”
He loved very much his extended family, I mean, the VSNA. He was its pillar of pillars. When it came to the VSNA, he was always ready with open hand and heart. Often times, he was first one to come forth with an open wallet. The most astonishing thing about it is that, he never, never expected any thing in return and recognition.
With his characteristic humility, modesty and kindness, he touched the hearts and souls of every one he came in contact with. Thus, his presence amongst us, made our lives better and richer.
The saying, “sharanara mahimeyannu, avar maranadalli kanira…” reflects his final return journey; he donated his organs so that others could have a happier life.
Oh! Lord Shiva, please accept Dear Veerappa’s soul and grant it, ‘shanti, shanti, shantihi’.
